Chorus Information and Audition Sign-Up

Membership is open to choral singers with varying experience. We ask for a commitment to consistent attendance, practice and excellent performance. In return, we promise challenging, rewarding musical and educational opportunities with supportive, welcoming, and fun-loving friends and colleagues.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:30 PM.  We typically take a short break around 8:30.

We rehearse at Lakeside Presbyterian Church: 201 Eucalyptus Drive at 19th Avenue, San Francisco.  Lakeside is easily accessible via public transportation (the M or K train lines and 23, 28, 29 and many other buses close to the church).  There is also ample street parking available.

We have two major rehearsal and performance seasons per year, in the Fall and Spring. In addition, during the holiday season, we host a festive Sing Along Messiah and perform in numerous caroling events around San Francisco and the East Bay.

Auditions

Auditions are held following our first three Wednesday rehearsals in each cycle. Please attend the first rehearsal of the cycle, if you can, even if your audition is scheduled for a later date.

The auditions are generally done in a group format, with occasional solo singing of easy vocal exercises for the purpose of appropriate placement within the chorus. The audition will include the following:

  • General questions about your choral experience

  • General exercises of tonal memory

  • Immediate feedback from the director

Note: sight-reading is NOT required for the audition

Auditions take place just after the week’s rehearsal time. On your first evening with us, you are warmly encouraged to join us for the rehearsal first, starting at 7 pm. Please arrive about 6:30 - 6:45 pm to fill out forms, get oriented and tell us a bit more about yourself.
